The Story of the Shepherd Boy
Blog Article
Deep within the mesmerizing rolling fields, lived a shepherd boy. His existence was essentially untarnished, simple, and honest. His main role was essentially to care for his herd of sheep.
Their gentle baas and the whispering of the breezes among the solo tree on the hilltop were his constant associates. Day read more after day, guarding his wards imbued in him a feeling of calm satisfaction.
But, there were occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. In one such instance from sheer monotony, the shepherd boy devised a troublesome scheme.
Narratives of wild beasts prowling on sheep had been around for a while in the village. So, the boy decided to exploit this fear and played a trick on the inhabitants.
One day he dashed into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The terrified villagers rushed up the hills for rescue but found no wolf.
The boy giggled at the dilemma on their faces. This trick continued for a few more days. Yet, one noon, a real wolf did attack the flock. The shepherd boy ran for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the village only to receive a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once violated, is tough to earn back. It's a story as appropriate today as it was anciently.
